A list of questions that I get asked occasionally. This list is by no means exhaustive, and I add to it as more questions come that I feel need responding to.
Why the wilderness? What about other settings?
I do, in fact, write stories that take place in other settings. However, most of my bigger stories and novels take place in the wilderness for one primary reason – the wild is a place where people tend to get put to the test more than within the conveniences of civilization… at least as far as survival goes. Additionally, many of the stories I write take place during periods of history where civilization wasn’t as common as it is today.
Did you really live in a log cabin in Alaska?
Yes, I really did. No, it wasn’t igloo-like… it had electricity and plumbing (after it was installed – we had to get water from the well for the first couple months). Prior to that we lived in a trailer for a couple years until the cabin was finished. Well, at least finished enough so we could live in it.
